Johnny Sauter says winning Truck Series will be ‘biggest accomplishment in career’ – NASCAR news
Johnny Sauter currently stands third in the Camping World Truck Series, 7 points behind leader Austin Dillon. With 6 races to go, Sauter believes that he has a good chance of winning the championship this year, 2011.
Sauter admitted that it was more difficult this year to win the title because of the new points system introduced by NASCAR. The new points system makes the race more interesting for the fans but it means that one can lose a lot of positions if one has a
one bad race.
Sauter was also frustrated by the fact that they had very good positions in a lot of races but just did not have luck with them and ended up losing points on those races.
Given that Sauter has been in this position before, his experience should help him navigate through the last six races. He has been consistently improving each year, having finished 6th in 2009 and then made it to 3rd in
2010.
Sauter expects the race to go until the end. Whoever can keep the coolest head and keep finishing races consistently, will win the Series.
“Judging from what I've seen and how the 2011 season has gone so far, we're not going to know the Truck Series champion until the chequered flag falls at Homestead,” said Sauter. “Consistency in these final six races will win it, and cooler heads should
prevail. That's what we're shooting for, and we don't freak out under pressure. We've been here before.”
Sauter was also confident about the races that were next on the schedule. The team registered strong performances in five of the remaining six tracks on the series. Therefore, he was hoping for strong finishes on those tracks. About Talladega, he said that
no one can predict what will happen there as it such a ‘hit or miss’ track.
A lot is expected from Sauter and he claimed that winning the title will be his biggest accomplishment and will mean a lot to his family. He also added that he will not know what winning the series actually means to him until he actually wins it.
