i recently purchased a 21 foot aquasport with a 150 hp johnson 2 stroke outboard engine. the engine is from 1995 (recently re-built) and the boat is a 1983. the first few times i took it out, everything worked like a charm.
the last two times however, the engine began to stall. the engine has a little trouble starting at first (typical i think), but once it starts, it idles well. i can rev it high while it is in idle no problem....works like a champ. the problem is when i put it in gear. at low speeds (about 1500 rpm's, it works fine, once i begin to give it some throttle though, it begins to stall and then stalls out completely. i can usually get it started again relatively easy, but the stalling keeps happeneing....there seems to be a specific point where his happens.
the spark plugs were recently replaced and i have the proper fuel/oil mix (50:1 ratio...or 1 quart oil to 12 gallons gasoline).
my thought is that there is something wrong with the fuel pump...or the fuel filter....others have suggested that it has something to do with the spark plugs or the "coils". not sure what they mean by coils.
i can't make any sense of it considering it all seems to work fine in idle...just having problems while in gear.
would much appreciate some experienced advice.
