Johnson Outboard Motor Overcharging Problem

2000 50HP Johnson is overcharging battery, voltmeter reads 18 volts. Is there a voltage regulator I can fix or replace?

  1. Change out the battery and see if that helps> If not it's a very expensive charge ring under the fly wheel>


  2. Have to agree that is maybe the regulator.  Good answer.

  3. well i have a mercury and it did the same thing  i changed the regulator  problem solved

  4. There is a regulator/rectifier on the side of the engine. No need to go into the stator, or change battery.
