After being booed early by the home fans, Chris Johnson said that he was not responsible for the anemic ground game of his team. Chris Johnson was being held tо 18 yards оn 10 carries when Tennessee Titans lost to the Houston Texans Sunday by 41-7.
Johnson dismissed the reports coming from the Titan Insider that said Johnson was not in a position to start the season following the contract holdout. He further said that his conditioning and missing camps could not be the reason for the running game performance.
Before the commencement of the season, Johnson signed a four-year $53.5 million contract with the Titans. Before this deal, he had 93carries fоr 268 yards making an average of 2.9 yards per carry. Johnson said that he was actually frustrated with running
struggles and those who know about football can understand and tell what the actual problems a player can have. Clearing up his position he argued that if someone is watching the football game and does not know what is happening in the run game, then they
do not know anything about football.
Johnson said that after the game he has been quite confident about what he is doing. He also said that he cannot do anything about what people say. The only thing he cares about is making efforts for his team.
Backup Javon Ringer had relatively more yards (31) as compared to Johnson and only in three carries. Regarding this, the Coach Mike Munchak asked the reporters not to talk and read much into that.
Munchak said that when a team loses like that, it should re-evaluate everything for better results in future and identify the major cause of defeat. He further said, “there is much you can do to change it. We like Ringer, but is that the answer? I don’t
think so. I don’t think all of a sudden we’re going to block better because of that."
However,Ringer agreed to back Johnson on his stance.
"People in the stands look at CJ (Chris Johnson) and they think, 'OK, outrun this guy, break tackles.' But you can’t if there’s no room there," Ringer said. He added that he does not want to point a finger on anyone and everyone should work as a team.
