Johny Hendricks still waiting his turn to fight GSP – UFC News
After his knockout victory over Martin Kampmann at UFC 154, number one welterweight contender Johny Hendricks had promised he would not take another fight until he gets a title shot. However, it seems like Hendricks just got soft over his commitment. Since
titlist GSP has been scheduled to face Nick Diaz, Hendricks will be fighting in the co-main event against Jake Ellenberger.
While talking to MMFighting.com via text, Hendricks revealed, “They made me I guess lol.”
“(I) just have to win and GSP has nowhere to hide from me. Man, he's scared. That's why he wants me to keep fighting because maybe I'll lose and then he won't have to retire (before fighting me).”
Georges St-Pierre clearly stated that he wants to sort out things with Diaz before moving on to fight Hendricks. GSP admits that Hendricks stands as the number one contender and that he feels bad for him but he cannot ‘split himself into halves’.
Hendricks has already become the next big thing in the division with his brutal knockout victories. It is being eyed as a threat to GSP but the latter has no fears whatsoever.
In addition, GSP is also supposedly booked for a super-fight against middleweight champion Anderson Silva, but no one knows when the fight will happen. According to the French-Canadian mixed martial artists, fighting against Silva is more about legacy than
money.
In an interview earlier this month, GSP asserted that he will face Silva sooner or later but he is not sure when. According to GSP, the only reason why he wants to face Silva would be cementing his legacy but right now he has other priorities to attend to.
GSP believes he will defeat Silva clean, but he is not sure of where he will go on from there. The welterweight champion wants to make sure he has a future after the Silva fight before he takes it up. Whether he wins or loses, GSP wants to know what consequences
would the fight bring.
For now, GSP is scheduled to face Nick Diaz next year in March at UFC 158 to decide who is the better man.
