Johor defeats Negri Sembilan by 6-1 in the Razak Cup South Zone Qualifier: Hockey Recap
The rock-solid Johor gave a humiliated defeat to Negri Sembilan by 6-1 in another match of the Razak Cup South Zone Qualifier which concluded at the Batu Pahat Ground on June 5, 2011.
Having lost their first match to Malacca by a narrow margin of 1-0, Johor came back strongly in their next game and snatched it quite comprehensively.
In South Zone qualifier, three teams are participating and the top two of these three will make their way to Division One of Razak Cup, while the third team will play in the Division Two Razak Cup, which will be played next month in Malacca.
Johor played dominant hockey during the entire match and especially in the first half in which they scored five out of their total six goals, while Negri Sembilan scored their solitary goal in the first half. Johor started the first half in spectacular
style scoring the first goal in 2nd minute, thanks to Nor Akmal. They looked unstoppable in the first half as the next two goals came in succession of two minutes. The second goal was scored in the 10th minute
again by Akmal, while the third one in the 12th minute and the scorer was Chairul Annuar.
This was not enough for the Sembilan, as they had to face two more strikes in the first half, when Robert Alcantara did it for Johor in 27th minute, while Ismail Imadi in 28th minute. However, three minutes
before the end of first half, Azraie Azizan opened the account for Negri, their only goal in the match. Johor finished the match by scoring their last goal in 50th minute, after which no goal was scored.
Gurmit Singh, coach of the Johor, told that in the last match that his team is not fully prepared and also did not do their homework well.
“We did not get a chance to train as a full side before the Malacca match and that is why there was little understanding and we lost 1-0. However, against Negri today the players clicked well and we could have scored at least nine goals, but missed
many sitters,” Gurmit Singh, a former national hockey player and coach of the Johor, explained after the match.
“We will wait for the outcome of the Negri-Malacca postponed match now. And there is the second round for Johor to make amends as we intend to play in Division One”, Gurmit Singh further stated.
The reason behind this huge defeat for Negri Sembilan is, quite obvious as, that their national and former national players did not represent the team in this match and due to which the club had to play the Under-21 squad.
