was sized at an apparel store who said nothing about payment - assumed the team had funds as they did alot of fundraisers - quit the team and handed the uniforms back to the coach. Several months later received an invoice for a number of items. The apparel store states the coach decided the people who joined after a certain point should pay for there own uniforms. Never was informed there would be a charge. Assumed the team would keep the uniform and give them to another player however the team folded and the apparel company has threatened to go to collections. I never signed an invoice and was handed the uniforms by the coach not the apparel store. Do I have to worry about collection agency or my credit. I even payed the apparel store for the items I kept. I did not pay for the items I gave back. I know the coach does not want to pay her and they are trying to go after me. Can they trash my credit for an amount less then 300.00

  1. If you did not sign any sort of agreement to pay for the uniform, you are in the clear. Clearly the store expected the coach to pay or they would not have released the items to you. You paid for what you kept. You cannot be forced to pay for merchandise you returned, much less were under no obligation to pay for. The coach changed the rules when he realized he was in too deep. That's his problem, not yours.

The only way you can be reported to the credit bureau for a bad debt is if you filled out a credit application (giving them all your personal info, including your social security number) agreeing to pay and then defaulted on the agreement.

The store is merely trying to recover. They will do what they must to get what they can.

If the details in your post are complete, you have nothing to worry about.
