what can i expect, i know i have to be able to do at least 71 push ups and 78 situps and run 2 miles in 13 minutes to pass the apft and finish basic with perfect scores. what im worried about is being that guy in the back of the pack getting screamed at by the drill stg. how long do soldiers acutally train for? how long do they get breaks? i kinda want to start doing my own little bootcamp before i go off so i wont struggle too bad

  1. There is more to it than physical shape.Eating right and keeping your self hydrated are important but start keeping away from junk food to so your body wont go through with drawls. My husband is currently a drill sergent in Ft.Benning. He tells me that yes you have to be physically and mentally ready also emotionally. Also from the horror stories i have heard and seen heres some extra advice. Don't ever touch a Drill Sergeants hat..BIG NO NO even if they throw it at you don't catch it let it fall , next big mistake when you are doing Ranges don't ever turn around and point your weapon at them that is one of the biggest mistakes i hear from him.Lastly never ever stare at them like they have a you know what on their forehead. As far as physically running is very important, follow JW plan it will help also learn to do the chair put your back against the wall squat down like you are sitting in a chair and hold 5 minutes at first keep it up and every day add thirty seconds it will help strenghten your legs better than ever also learn to give you patience.Good luck and hope this helps

  2. Follow JW's regimen.  You can find gyms that have equipment that would be in addition.

Except for the swimming all within the plan provided by JW can be done at home. Some Gyms have a swimming pool but most do not.  Many communities maintain a swimming pool. You might check the local YMCA to see if they have a pool.

  3. I got in shape for the Marine Corps...JW has a good plan, but if you want something more hardcore, you can always email me for it.

  4. I can tell you that when I was in back in the 80s it was all go no quit from 4:30am until well after the sun went down.
