I have always wanted to join 4-h but when i recently looked into it I discovered that the local 4-h is in a really really bad part of town. and my parents don't want me to go there. I figured if I only did the events like the county fairs it would be ok. Do I have to go to the meetings do they even have any?? Thanks

  1. 4-H is a good club to belong to. This is a good place to learn about how to make things and compete against other people with the same interest. I know there are several categories to participate in. I am not sure that you could do just the county fairs. I would find a safe way to

go to the meetings and participate. I would prefer that you do this than stand on the street corner, join the gangs, while doing drugs. Your parents should find a way to get you there safely and be supportive in this endeavor. Good Luck Good Kid!

  2. Each group, club and county can have different attendance rules.  Our club is strict allowing only two missed monthly meetings per year to be eligible represent our club at fair while our project groups have no attendance requirement.

Learn your local 4-H club attendance requirements by calling your local 4-H club leader.  Beyond this call your local county extension office for the contact information for other clubs.  Rather than joining our local club, my children are part of a club two townships over as it has a very active dog group.  Some clubs & counties allow kids to participate in groups from other clubs so you can participate in activities your club doesn't offer.  Our leader's son does dogs and goats in our club but marksmanship with another club.  I've found 4-H very flexible in supporting young people.

    Good luck!

  3. It depends on what you do... when my sisters raised lambs, they went to 2 or 3 meetings. When I did gps, I didn't do any. Just the competition. I guess that theyre not required for some things... talk to the director and the leaders.

  4. not sure.
