Joining Primary School?

Hi

My son is nearly 3, and we're starting to think about what school he will go to etc etc. What is the process we have to take in order to get him to join a primary school we like? Do we have to join a waiting list or something? I know its a while a way, but would rather know now in case its too late!

  1. Depends on where you live. Here in Brighton it is a nightmare. You have to live practically next door to the school you'd like your child to go to. You get sent a back around November. So if your son is attending school Sept 09 you will get your pack this November. It has to be returned by February. In those months you go visit schools and put your top favourite 3 on your form. Then in May/June they will tell you what school you have been given. Good Luck x

  2. Ring your local council and ask to speak to the School Admissions section, they should have an officer who deals with Reception Transfer who should be able to go through the procedure with you.  You could also have a look at their website.  If your child is currently in a nursery & it's still open, someone at the nursery should also be able to advise you.
