Question:

Joining The Air Force?

I want to join the Air Force and, like every other person who joins, wants to be a fighter pilot. I know that the odds are against me and that it mostly depends on the needs of the Air Force and about 3 people from one class become fighter pilots, how many people are in one class? And what are things that will higher my odds of being picked the most? Like having a license to fly a plane before I join or being higher academically? Would time with the Air Force take up a lot of personal life? Are all tours of duty like on aircraft carriers spending months from home or are their alternatives like flying out of an airbase from the U.S? I know im getting ahead of myself but please any help would be greatly appreciated, especially what answers me questions. Thank-you!

  1. Having the highest grades in your class boosts your chance of flying a fighter one day, I'm not sure if having a pilot's license does anything, it's worth a shot though. And I think it's important that you know that Air Force doesn't fly off of Aircraft Carriers, those are Navy jets.

    Good Luck.

  2. Try to get into a Military Academy, you need a college degree. And having a pilots license will actually hurt, because you will have to unlearn flying a Piper cub, and then learn an F-15, which is a h**l of a lot different. And air farce people don't fly from carriers. they fly from air farce bases, both in and out of the U.S.

You HAVE to have a college degree, and Marines also fly from carriers, but not you.

  3. Make sure you become an officer first or your chances of becoming a fighter pilot are slim to none.

  4. Officers are usually pilot so go to a collage likeWVU with a AFROTC program and you will probably be assigned to a pilot slot.
