I can't be bothered to delve into the reasons as to why I want to join the army. There are many, despite the fact no one I know thinks I can or should. I was wondering can anyone extend their advice as to how to convince my Mom and Dad to sign the consent. I live in England, but I'm an American citizen I'm only here because of my Dad's job so I will have the equivalent of a high school diploma, so I will be eligible. But if anyone can, could you help me think about how to get my Mom and Dad to agree. I'm so determined it hurts. Thank you all.

  1. if they are totally against it, the best advice I can give you is to just wait until you are 18, then you wont need their signatures.  You can't always change some peoples minds.

  2. not much you can do except tell them you've decided you really want to serve your country, etc and if they don't go for it just wait the extra year until you can join without their permission.

  3. I think you should just try and inform them that you really want to do this and you have made up your mind. Just let them know you are at a point in your life were you decide what you want to do with it, not them anymore.

Also suggest that they go meet with a recruiter with you. that way they can answer any of their questions.

  4. Don't beg about how desperate you are, unless you get so far into a talk that you have to beg - begging can turn your parents off to the idea. Tell them all the benefits you will get, and how important this will be to your character.

Be careful about making it, though. Me and my friend Hannah do karate, and today we had to lay on our backs, cross our arms on our chest, and hold our legs up STRAIGHT a foot off the ground. My friend Hannah's dad said he had to do that in the army, but he built up until he held it for 6 hours non-stop. I hope your physically fit, and not just determined to learn how to work a gun and do an obstacle course or something.

  5. Wait until you're 18 when you won't need their consent. And please think about what you're doing. A lot of people nowadays sign up without knowing what they're getting themselves into. Especially with the Army.

  6. Army? Go Marine Corps.
