Joining of ESPN: Former Indianapolis Colts official Bill Polian finds voice for NFL expertise-NFL News
The vocal former vice chairman of the Indianapolis Colts, Bill Polian, has found the right platform of ESPN to voice his analysis on different aspects of the American professional football.
Both, Polian and ESPN, have confirmed joining of the former National Football League (NFL) official to work as a senior league analyst on the channel.
Polian is considered to an official with very analytical approach and credited to have built Colts, the Buffalo Bills and Carolina Panthers, taking them to the Super Bowl event.
He has recently become a controversial figure over the repeated statements about recovery of Colts’ quarterback, Peyton Manning, from a neck injury to play football again with or without the team.
As a matter fact, it was the dependence on the man during the entire 2011 NFL regular season that cost him the job at the end.
Polian had left Manning on active roster of the team, instead of finding and grooming a replacement at the position, and the lapse provided Colts’ owner, Jim Irsay, enough justification to sack Polian and his son Chris, the general manager.
Bill conceded the failure and parted ways with Colts immediately. Yet, this did not stop him from going vocal on the lingering issue of Peyton Manning’s recovery and return to the league, since then.
He has continued with the outspoken and analytical approach on the radio shows he has been hosting on the NFL radio channel. The official has also come to the rescue of Manning for more than one occasion.
At the same time, he has kept the American football community well informed and entertained with the comments on other aspects of the game and it is probably the ability that has won him a contract from the ESPN.
While confirming the appointment, Seth Markman, ESPN senior co-ordinating producer for NFL studio shows, said:
"We will tap into his expertise immediately on ESPN in preparation for the upcoming NFL draft, free agency and arguably the biggest offseason story in years with the future of his former quarterback Peyton Manning still to be determined."
This explains the expertise of the former Colts’ official, which he has been hired for by the channel, and where they aim to ploy him in the future.
He will appear on the channel’s shows ‘NFL Live’, ‘NFL 32’ and ‘SportsCenter’ commenting live on various aspects of the game, particularly on the players’ profile.
The channel will also acquire his front-office services to ESPN The Magazine, ESPN.com and ESPN Radio.
Bill Polian has made immense contribution in assessing potential talent for the professional league and is lauded for having been instrumental in selection of some of high profile players, such as Peyton Manning.
ESPN is a comprehensive coverage network of the American and Canadian sports including the football. It also extends to world sports coverage.
