Question:

Joining the CHP while in the Army National Guard?

The California Highway Patrol(CHP) academy is a live-in facility, which means I won't be able to leave for any kind of drill training until i successfully graduate the academy. For someone in the California National Guard, since it's from the state, do you think they can work out something for me to complete the 26 weeks at CHP academy?

  1. Probably.  You can SUTA for a lot less than CHP academy.

Have you talked to your platoon SGT or 1SG about a SUTA?  It's not a big deal.

You also get extra points for having military service.

  2. possibly, have you asked?

  3. I'm sure this situation has come up before. If you just ask, I'm sure there is some way to get it approved. Especially if you have been in the Guard a while.
