Question:

Joining the Marines after acl surgery?

I had ACL surgery back in January 08. They took 1/3 of my patella tendon and grafted that into my new acl. In July my Dr. said that my knee stability was back to 100%, but that it would take a while longer for my knee strength to also reach 100%. My hope is to join the Marines as an infantryman in Jan 09, giving my knee a full year of healing. Has anyone else joined the Marines or another branch after acl surgery, and will my knee be able to withstand bootcamp?

  1. I will say what I know...as long as there are no screws or pins, and you have full functionality, you should be able to enlist. I know several athletes that tear their ACL and return to play and also a high school friend of mine had knee problems, maybe ACL-can't remember. and he has been a Navy Seal since around 1998 or so. Just talk to the recruiter, he'll tell ya.
