Joining the Samaritans - Info please?

Hi.

I'm seriously considering joining the samaritans in some form or another. Can anyone else that has done provide me information as to how you join, what sort of process you go through etc.

I'm quite a shy person, but I am good at listening and would love to help out in some form. Even if I didn't 'man the phones' so to speak, I would at very least be comfortable responding to emails etc.

I have sent off for an information pack which should provide plenty of details, but I'd really be interested to hear anybody elses personal experience.

Dear Samaritan team I live in the north west of Ireland in Co. Donegal. You may or may not be aware that there is a suiside problem this is a global situation to some degree and not peculiar to our geographical location however, I would like to be a listening ear to people in their hour of need. There are samaritans in Galway and Sligo, so it is available however these locations are too far away for me. Please let me know if the North west is an area where you would set up as I think it is the forgotton pocket of Ireland their may be a high number of people willing to offer a listening ear and make this world a better place for a number of people. Please let me know if there is likely to be such an opportunity open at some point. Kind regards Sarah Keeney
