OK...I was in the Army, discharged properly so I can go back to the military whenever I would like. I am highly considering going to the USCG and wanted to stay in Hawaii where I live at. Now I know how the military works, the dream sheet, all of that jazz, however, I do want to know are their certain questions I can ask the recruiters as far as what jobs are needed here, to help me stay here I know nothing is guaranteed in the military, but anything to give me an advantage would be ok.

Any main differences between USCG boot camp and Army basic? Army basic was a cake walk so I am assuming USCG would be easier and shorter?

  1. If Hawaii is a deal breaker, don't even bother going to a recruiter.  You could get it, but very slim odds.

If you were prior A/D, you may qualify for an abbreviated version of basic called Pitstop.

CG basic may be a bit less challenging physically, but I you will find it is much more challenging academically.

  2. You shouldn't have to do USCG basic. You already went through basic once, only if you join the marines do you have to do it their way.
