  1. I would suggest the Air Force.  I plan on joining the Air Force when I get out of college as a Combat Controll officer.

  2. Judging from the careless and self-serving attitude expressed here, I hope that NONE of the U.S. services accept you.  Since many military installations (particularly Army) are near small towns, and all of them are not know for their high-class offerings in the realms of housing, wages and promotions, I think you need to search elsewhere.  Military service is exactly that - Service - with only secondary concern for your own welfare.  Go get a job with some investment bank.

  3. To start off, I don't know where wilderwriter gets his information from, but appartently he has never served in the armed forces. Yes, some military installations are located near small towns, but there are many others that are practically located in the heart of many large cities. And the ones that are in small areas, there is usally a large city within 30-45 min away. As for promotion and housing, I can almost guarantee I am more financially stable and live in better conditions than he.

    Had to get that out....

There are a few different options that you can explore with having your degree. If you decide to come in on the enlisted side, you will already be bumped up to a pay grade of E-4, or you can look at going officer. Not sure what type of situation you are in, but if you have student loans, let the Army pay those off for you too. There are many different career paths you can look into... if you take the ASVAB test you can sit down with your Army recruiter in his office and see what jobs you are qualified for, which incentives that will be offered, and when you will actually ship to basic training. (can only do this with the army)

Right now, I am on recruiting duty, but was a flight engineer on helicopters before I came out here. I have had a few soldiers who worked for me before, did their commitment and are now making well over six figures doing the same thing they did in the Army. Was trained by us and carried it over into their civilian lives. The thing is with the military, you are going to get out of it as much as you put in. If you don't take advantage of the opportunites that are offered and just do the bare minimum, you aren't going to get that much out of it. But if you go to the schools offered, take some more college classes while you are in( paid for by the Army) it will all help you in the end. The best bet is to go talk to a recruiter and see what can be made available to you. Take the info given to you and do some more research on your own and make a decision.

  4. I agree with the Army Recruiter...go take the ASVAB and see what jobs you'd be interested in.  First and foremost, remember that traveling on someone else's dime is fine, but you're going to put in your time first.  If you received a bachelor's degree I would encourage you to look at becoming an officer.  But, your first year or two will be (and better be) dedicated to the branch of service you join.  I was like you, no kids, no husband and wanted to see the world.  I went to basic in Texas (6 hours from home), technical school in Mississippi, then stationed permanently at Wichita Falls, TX...three hours from home!  I was in for a big surprise, but I soon realized that after 12 months I could request a transfer...notice request, not demand!  Due to medical reasons I was medically discharged, but if I could get a new heart I'd go back and spend 30 years...I loved it!!
