Joining the military after college... Will I be able to get a job using my degree afterwards?

I'm currently studying mechanical engineering and want to go into the army for a few years after college... Will this look bad to employers when I try to get a job with my degree after my time in the military? Is not going directly into the work force after college to serve my country something that will make it tough for me to get my first job in ME since I will be three or four years out of school? Thanks in advance ;).

  1. With a degree in engineering, you might think about talking to the local ROTC program folks and seeing if you can work with them... graduate and possibly enter the military as an officer.

If you're planning to go enlisted... with a degree... the best thing you can do is enlist doing something related to your career field... to keep your skills in the right area.  Understand, though, that as an enlisted person, you will have very little actual responsibility in that field... if you want career foundation-building work, you should really look at trying to pick up a commission as an officer.  Army corps of Engineers is a great career...

  2. No not at all..but some companies may look for youngsters, but dont care for'em.Go and serve your nation mighty man.You sure will have your Job after from Army

  3. I don't know any job where having military service on your resume looks bad.  In fact, it's the first thing I have listed on my resume.  You bet you can get a good job after your time in service.  Many employers are eager to hire prior military due to their higher than average work ethics and their ability to competently follow instructions given to them.
