  1. I would say every other year is fair, as long as both parties are working.

    The custodial parent (or the parent that the child(ren) live with) is the only parent that can claim taxes on the child(ren).

    Check out the IRS site under child tax credit.  It'll explain a lot more for you.

  3. This is decided in the joint parenting agreement.  Each case is different.  

    In my husband's case, his ex was allowed the deduction every year.  Until a couple of years ago, when his daughter's primary residence was changed, legally, to our home.  At that point, we began taking the deduction.  

  4. Usually it is every other year...My sons bio dads claim the boys every other year which i feel is fair because they provide support for their sons and they should be able to claim them... i still get to claim the clothing and dr bills and what not i just dont claim them on the taxes ...
