I would like to start giving my mustang mare joint supplement but I don't want to use her as a test dummy so any comments or refferals to a certian brand would help thank you

  1. I have my gelding on Pureform Glucosamine Plus, he has no need for it other than turning 10 and show jumping every other weekend. It is a top pick where I am, gets great reviews, and if you call Pureform they give you a free sample that retails for over $20!

If you get the vet out, Corta Flex Rx is the way to go, it will actually work, where as we take a chance with store bought. But if your horse hasn't shown a need for it, and this is precautionary, Pureform is what I recommend.

  2. i have two twenty plus gledings.  the one was really stiff this spring.  we tried all kinds of joint meds and none of them worked.  finally we got one.  its called yucca. its part of the dac formula line.  u would never know my horse was twenty plus.

  3. I also use cetyl-m like Freedom Rider does, to aid with present joint issues as well as a preventative measure. It increases the lubrication of the joints and has restorative properties. I've been in the horse world a long time and this was distributed to me as a trial run through a professional connection because I didn't want to try another joint solution after too many that did not meet my expectation. After trying numerous other products, this is the one I'd recommend and often do with excellent feedback from everyone who has tried it. You can expect improvement in about 3 weeks, in my personal experience. In the long run, vet bills are more expensive than the cost of the feed supplement. Fwiw...there is no 'kick-back' for me recommending it.

  4. I don't know if you'd be against giving your horse an injection, but adequan is an EXCELLENT lubricant for joints. It can get a bit pricey, it's $60 a shot. For it to work most effectively, you have to give it a shot in it's neck once a month.

For some reason, there is a lot of animosity towards injecting horses. However, adequan actually does work, unlike supplement, when over time, they build up an immunity to it. If you or someone you know can give your horse a shot in it's neck, the results would be highly effective and you'd be satisfied, as you can usually see a difference in their movement.

  5. I use Rapid Flex I get it at wal-mart, and it works great.

  7. I currently use cosequin on my OTT thoroughbred and i really like it it works well. It does get a bit pricy so i would also reccoment next level that works too =]

  8. go to smartpakequine.com and you can read about different products and even form a custom suppliment to fit her needs. good luck. but remember not to go to suppliment crazy, with a good balanced diet and exersize program a horse really shouldnt need many suppliments

    good luck

  9. I use Cetyl-M. Also pricey. Have used it for about 3 years and it's fantastic. I have a friend with a dog with congenital hip dysplasia. Put him on it. After about 2 weeks, he could jump on and off the couch again, run, and play. This is all from my own personal experience, though I feel like I sound like an informercial. I really can't say enough good things about this stuff - I tried a lot of things before I found it.

    Main ingredients:

Cetyl Myristoleate* (100% Kombo nut source) 4500 mg

    Glucosamine HCL 3000 mg

    MSM (methylsulfonylmethane)  3000 mg

Vitamin C (ascorbic acid)  1000 mg

  10. I give my mare Glycoflex.  I love it (works wonder on dogs too).  The vet said she was actually surprised at how little arthritis she has and how well she moves for her age.  Not sure if that can be chocked up to the supplement, but I'm sure it helps a lot.

  11. We give MSM Glucosamine to our arthritic horses. It works really well for them (and for humans too.) We've been using it for years and never had any problems.
