Joline Hoestman dominates Women’s 200m breaststroke prelims: Day four – European LC Championships
Joline Hoestman of Sweden dominated the qualification rounds of Women’s 200m breaststroke on fourth day of the continued European Long Course Championships in Debrecen, Hungary on Thursday, May 24.
The 23-year-old Hoestman outsmarted her challengers over the finishing end in a comfortable manner and qualified into the semi-finals as top contender for first position.
With her invincible efforts, she remained a half body length ahead of her strongest challenger and hit the finishing end with the timing of 2 minutes and 28.06 seconds.
Her fastest qualification effort was trailed by Nadja Higl of Serbia, who suffered a deficit of 0.53 seconds from Hoestman and entered the second round by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 28.59 seconds.
The second best qualifying swimmer was chased by Irina Novikova of Russia, who remained 0.60 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing wall as third fastest finisher by producing a time of 2 minutes and 29.19 seconds.
Fourth best qualification spot of the race was obtained by Sara Nordenstam of Norway, who was only 0.03 seconds slower from upsetting her foregoing finisher and emerged on the finishing blockade by producing a time of 2 minutes and 29.22 seconds.
Next were the preliminary rounds of the Men’s 100m freestyle, where Amaury Leveaux of France served notice of his talent by snaring the top qualification spot of the race.
The 26-year-old Leveaux faced strong competition from Marco Di Carli of Germany but with his astonishing efforts, he tapped the wall for first position with an effort of 48.77 seconds.
His phenomenal effort remained 0.04 seconds ahead of Di Carli, who followed him on the finishing end for second best position by reporting a time of 48.81 seconds.
Third fastest spot of the discipline was secured by Norbert Trandafir of Romania, who stayed nearly two strokes behind and posted a time of 49.09 seconds.
Trandafir was chased by Dieter Dekoninck of Belgium, who secured eighth position of the discipline by posting a time of 49.12 seconds.
In addition, these contestants will compete with each other in second round of their respective events during the evening session of the day.
