Joline Hostman earns Women’s 200m breaststroke gold: Day two – 2012 Swedish Grand Prix, Uppsala
European bronze medallist, Joline Hostman went full throttle and earned gold medal of the Women’s 200m breaststroke on final day of the 2012 Swedish Grand Prix in Uppsala, Sweden on Sunday, February 5.
With the blasting performances of local swimmers in their respective events, the Swedish Championships were a huge success. These championships provided an opportunity to the national stars to demonstrate their extraordinary skills and find out their shortcomings
before the forthcoming 2012 London Olympic Games.
The 23-year-old Hostman served notice of her talent by clinching gold medal of the four-lap breaststroke discipline. With the help of her quickest dive and fastest leg actions, she earned a prominent lead over her fellow swimmers in the beginning of the
event.
She completed her first round of the race in a fastest time of 1 minute and 11.85 seconds. She was trailed by her strongest competitor, Elin Martensson, who remained 1.24 seconds slower and ended her initial half of the race with the timing of 1 minute and
13.09 seconds.
The same continued in the third lap, where Hostman extended her lead to almost two seconds by posting a time of 1 minute and 49.76 seconds for the initial 150 metres. Similarly, Martensson remained nearly one and a half body length behind her and covered
the equivalent distance with an effort of 1 minute and 51.71 seconds.
Hostman showed no mercy to her rivals and geared up her efforts in the final lap, where she secured her top spot on the podium by clocking a stupendous 2 minutes and 29.45 seconds effort.
She remained 2.33 seconds slower from Martensson, who reached the victory stand for second position by submitting an effort of 2 minutes and 31.78 seconds. After a while, the crowd witnessed a remarkable struggle of Stina Kajsa Colleou, who was considerably
slower from her foregoing finisher and reported 2 minutes and 36.79 seconds for bronze medal.
In addition, the audience accredited breathtaking efforts of all contestants in the 200m race whereas the position holders were called upon the medal rostrum for their awards and accolades after the completion of session.
