Jon Ibbotson and Eluned Stewart of Netley Sailing Club win 2011 Lark Masters Championships
Netley Sailing Club’s Jon Ibbotson and Eluned Stewart claimed an impressive victory over the 35-boat fleet, as they sailed tremendously well on the final day of 2011 Lark Masters Championships at Hayling Island Sailing Club. The Lark Masters fleet was comprised
of five National Champions and two World Champions. However, Ibbotson and Stewart were able to secure glory with two stunning victories.
The breeze around the Hayling Island Sailing Club was steady, which was enough to have a complete sail on both days of the event. Ibbotson and Stewart sailed in the Apprentice fleet and produced a strong sail during the races.
On the other hand, in the Masters fleet, which comprised of over 45 Lark boats, Andrew Shorrocks along with Jackie Bonella from Frensham Pond Sailing Club was able to take the overall lead of the fleet with four points.

4. 2442 William Warren, Sophie Mackley, Shoreham SC 4, 5, (35 DNF) = 9 points
5. 2470 Nigel Hufton, Andy Douglas, Frensham Pond SC 7, (11), 3 = 10 points
6. 2495 Stuart Hydon, Nick Hydon, Shustoke SC 6, (7), 4 = 10 points
7. 2462 Nick Marlow, Ruth Marlow, Attenborough SC 8, (10), 5 = 13 points
8. 2341 Andrew Nunn, Annie Turner, Waldringfield SC (10), 6, 8 = 14 points
9. 2306 Spike Daniels, Andy Hicks, HISC 11, (14), 6 = 17 points
10. 2521 Martin Jones, Vicky Jones, HISC (12), 12, 7 = 19 points
The first race commenced under a moderate breeze featuring Ibbotson and Stewart in the lead. The pair finished on top followed by Apprentice Masters team of Sarah Richards and her brother, Nigel Wakefield of Pennine Sailing Club at second place. Shorrocks
and Bonella finished third in the respective meet.
In the second race, a strong sail from Netley Sailing Club’s Ibbotson and Stewart brought them on top again. Richards and Wakefield finished on number two while the third place was occupied by Tim Fells and Jerry Eplett of the host club.
Meanwhile, the third race was clinched by Shorrocks and Bonella ahead of Richards and Wakefield again on number two and Nigel Hufton crewed by Andy Douglas on third podium. The overall title was clinched by of Ibbotson and Stewarts with two points after
three races.
