Jon Jones: I am dealing with fighters who are far more powerful than Rashad Evans – UFC News
Jon Jones, the current UFC light heavyweight champion, recently shared his views about his former fast friend and current arch rival Rashad Evans and said that Evans must know that he cannot intimidate me mentally adding that he has altered his sparring
altogether and is now training with men who are far more proficient in their game than Rashad.
Rashad and Jones are scheduled to headline UFC 145 pay-per-view and will try to put an end to the controversy that started quite dramatically several months back when Jones became the champion.
The duo will meet at Philips Arena situated in Atlanta, Georgia on April 21, 2012. Jones and Evans share a history since both belligerents started their UFC career and sparring under the supervision of the same trainer, Greg Jackson.
At that moment, it was said that both have a mutual understanding of not taking on each other no matter what happens and the trio was considered as the most successful and famous in UFC mostly because of their friendship.
Things took a sharp twist when Jones took Mauricio Rua on and nailed the former legendary champion via technical knockout hence becoming the new light heavyweight champion.
Afterwards Jones skirmished Quinton Jackson and Lyoto Machida and nailed both prolific brawlers to retain his precious gold. It was during those days when Jones said that he will even take on Rashad if things go that way.
Evans replied promptly and left Greg’s den forever to join the Imperial Athletics’ training facility. Rashad has been in a total 19 bouts and came out victorious in 17. He has collected six wins by knockout, two by submission and nine by decision.
Jones, on the other hand, has been in a total 16 bouts and emerged victorious in 15. Infamous as the ‘Bones’, Jon has collected eight of his total wins by knockout, five by submission, and two by decision.
During the brief interview Jones shared some changed aspects of his sparring session and tried to intimate Evans of the fact that he must not be confident since he knows Jones as how he was in the past whereas the fact is he is a totally different more lethal
brawler now.
Jones said, “Rashad talks about the time he held me down in practice and how he was getting me to break mentally. I have my older brother here, I have Travis Brown here and I have a whole bunch of heavyweights that are a lot more powerful and big than Rashad
and I’m having these guys try their hardest to break me mentally.”
While advising Rashad, Jones clearly said, “Basically, I’m fighting from the worst position he could put me in and if he’s banking on breaking me mentally, he’s going to have a rude awakening when he realizes that’s just not going to happen.”
The event will be co-headlined by the skirmish between Rory MacDonald and Che Mills.
