Jon Jones: I am not a bad person – UFC News
UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones believes he never embraced hate and always tried being the good person around. Jones, who always finds himself amidst controversies, tried to defend his UFC 151 stand once again in an interview with MMA Weekly.
“I am not going to say I embraced the role of being a villain because I am not,” said Jones. “I am not a villain; I am not a bad person. I pride myself off of inspiring others.”
Jones was blamed for the cancellation of UFC 151, as he was the one who refused to fight Chael Sonnen. However, Jones believes it was not in his hands to save the card, since it was already damaged by Dan Henderson’s injury.
“For all the people that think I am cocky, it's like if you really listen to what I talk about, if you talk to me about fighting you may hear something that is a little arrogant because, right now, I train so hard to not even get hit, let alone talk about
rousing a fight. So it is like I love this sport so much.”
Dan Henderson injured his leg three weeks earlier but revealed it to President Dana White just a week prior to the showdown. White contacted ‘The American Gangster’ Chael Sonnen to replace Henderson and it happened. However, what White did not expect was
that Jones would take a stand.
When White contacted Jones, the light heavyweight champion asserted that he would not change his opponent just eight days prior to the fight. Since Jones was not willing to fight any other fighter except Henderson, White had no choice but to cancel the card.
It was the first time White had to cancel a show in his 11-year-career, which of course was an embarrassing moment. White put the entire blame of the cancelation on Jones, without even mentioning the blunder committed by Dan Henderson.
The entire scenario made Jones look like a villain, even though all he did was just stand for his rights, at least that is how Jones puts it. For Jones, he took a stand for himself and others should understand it.
