Jon Jones: I really feel like a stronger young man to stand here before you guys today – UFC News
UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is proud of his win over Vitor Belfort at UFC 152 past Saturday. According to Jones, he is now a stronger and prouder man to stand in front of his fans. However, Jones does admit that Belfort gave him a tough time
in the ring.
“Oh man, he got that armbar in every way shape and form. I‘ve never felt my arm like that before. I honestly was waiting for it to break, (but) I was not going to tap out,” said the light heavyweight champion who somehow figured out how to beat Belfort’s
armbar.
“I really feel like a stronger young man to stand here before you guys today.”
On the other hand, Belfort, who tapped out to Jones’ submission, admitted that Jones indeed is the better fighter.
“That’s why he’s a champion. I really thought tonight I would win. But as a champion he fought better and he deserved it,” said Belfort.
Jones was locked in the armbar by Belfort in the very first round and it seemed like the champion was in trouble. However, Jones proved his mettle when he was able to beat Belfort’s submission.
Jones made him tap out in the fourth round at 54 seconds. It was an epic move by Jones and a very unexpected one. Belfort’s camp was hoping the champion to fall but Jones once again proved he is better than all. Even Belfort admitted the fact that Jones
indeed is the best of them all.
For now, Jones believes he has proven his worth, despite the controversies he was involved in. Finally, it is time for him to rejoice as he is now the reigning champion with four successful title defence fights in his portfolio.
Jones is on his way to be the best UFC light heavyweight champion of all times. Right now, it is Tito Ortiz who stands as the best light heavyweight champion in the history of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. If Jones is able to defend his title twice
more, he will be able to beat Ortiz’s record.
