Jon Jones: Rashad Evans’ performance has plummeted – UFC News
Jon Jones, the current UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, has highly criticised the performance of Rashad Evans and Phil Davis at the UFC on Fox 2.
Rashad Evans won the bout and got his title shot at the light-heavyweight championship against Jon Jones.
Even though Rashad Evans overpowered Phil Davis in all the five rounds, most critics, analysts and fellow fighters were not left pleased with his performance. Even Rashad’s fans around the world criticised him for his mediocre performance.
Apart from everyone else, the current champion took this opportunity to lash out on Evans saying that it seems like his performance is on a decline. Jones, who is considered as a dominant force in UFC, was neither impressed with Rashad’s show nor with Phil’s
defence.
He asserted, “Phil, man, I don't know what got into him. He did not look like a lion. I think with fighters, no matter how tough you are, there's just lions and there's wolves and there's sheep. He just kind of looked like a sheep out there. He didn't come
with much.”
He further added, “I think he got a little intimidated by Rashad. And the pressure of being on Fox, how many millions of people were watching the fight, I just don't think he handled the situation well. That's why, when I was broadcasting, I said this is
where we'll see where Phil's at, if he's going to be a top-level guy or a mid-tier fighter.”
Jon Jones and Rashad Evans are booked for a championship match at UFC 145 in April. This will be Rashad’s second attempt towards gaining the title from Jones. However, as Jones puts it, Rashad is not even as good as he was before and he has lost his spark.
Rashad Evans has beaten fighters like Rampage Jackson and Chuck Liddell and it has been his aim to be the champion. Jones believes that since it will be Rashad’s lifetime dream on the line, he should be concentrating more on improving his technique and skills.
He further added that after all these years it seems like Evans has gone down instead of getting better.
