Jon Jones believes experience does not count against Vitor Belfort – UFC News
While most analysts believe Vitor Belfort’s experience will overshadow Jon Jones’ fighting skills, the light heavyweight champion is certainly of a different view. In his recent interview with AXS TV's “Inside MMA,” Jones asserted that Belfort’s experience advantage does not bother him much.
“That doesn't really mean a whole lot to me. I don't have any plans of losing any time soon,” said Jones. “I always work really hard to stay on top of the game and be innovative in my own, personal game.”
According to Jones, Belfort is definitely experience but that is not a matter of concern. Jones is on a winning streak and he believes it is not time for him yet to lose.
“I believe the guy that will beat me is probably in high school, right now, working his butt off to be where I'm at, today. That will probably be the guy that surpasses me. A lot of quote-unquote: 'experienced fighters' are just older men. I believe that with my youth and lack of experience comes a certain amount of ambition and drive.”
Jones added that he feels excited about being the younger fighter in the cage at UFC 152. While most fighters would usually feel intimidated by being inexperienced, Jones believes it is his advantage.
Belfort came in as a surprise opponent for Jones. Previously, the Ultimate Fighting Championship was trying to get Shogun Rua or Machida as Jones’ opponents. However, since both the fighters declined facing Jones on such a short notice, UFC President Dana White brought Belfort in the scene.
It should be noted here that Belfort is among the best UFC fighters. However, since he is not as young as Jones, his fighting skills, endurance and speed might not be at its best. Therefore, Jones sees his advantage against Belfort.
Jones is completely confident that he will be the one to defeat Vitor Belfort in the cage. On the other hand, Belfort believes it is time for Jones to lose. Whatever the scenario might be, one thing is for sure, this fight is surely going to be an epic one.
