Jon Jones believes he can overpower Vitor Belfort at UFC 152 – UFC News
UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is confident that he can defeat old-school fighter Vitor Belfort easily at UFC 152. Although Jones admits Belfort is definitely a skilled opponent, he believes his younger age will give him an edge over the Brazilian.
Jones, who recently was under fire for negligence that eventually caused the UFC 151 card to collapse, believes Belfort’s hand speed is amazing. However, the champion insists he himself is fast enough to counter Belfort’s shots.
“His hand speed is definitely something that he has, but I believe I'm really fast, too. A lot of people discredit me for a lot of things,” said Jones in an interview with AXS TV’s ‘Inside MMA’.
According to Jones, most people believe his long arms and legs are his main weapons. However, the light heavyweight champion believes it is his speed that makes him superior to others.
“A lot of people who are unfamiliar with MMA just blame it on me being long. But, there's a lot more than being long that has contributed to my success, and speed is one of my advantages, as well. Where Vitor is fast, I believe I'm really fast, as well.
We can't forget that he has a Carlson Gracie Jiu-Jitsu black belt, which is a very legitimate black belt,” he added.
Jones will be facing Belfort at UFC 152 to defend his light heavyweight title. Upon hearing the news, Belfort insisted that this is a fight between an old lion and a young one. According to Belfort, he has enough experience to beat Jones in the ring.
Jones is currently going through a tough following the fall of UFC 151. Therefore, the light heavyweight champion needs a victory over Belfort in order to once again become the favourite fighter of the UFC as well as the fans. Right now, he is being considered
a villain, even though he has apologised time and again for his ‘selfish’ decision of not fighting Chael Sonnen at UFC 151.
Against Belfort, Jones is on a test. It is one of the toughest fights of his career and with all the trash-talk against him, there are chances he might not be as good in the cage as he usually is.
