Jon Jones believes he is better than Vitor Belfort – UFC news
UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones believes he holds a better record than Vitor Belfort, his opponent for UFC 152.
“Me and Vitor Belfort are from different generations of fighting. In my short career I already feel I've fought a lot of tougher opponents than he has,” said Jones in his recent interview.
Vitor Belfort is an old-school fighter, whereas Jones is the champion of today. Jones is regarded as one of the best fighters in the history of UFC, along with Tito Ortiz and Anderson Silva. Belfort is already excited about the match, as he believes it is
old-lion vs. a young tiger.
“Vitor's a boxer/jiu jitsu fighter, his versatility is not as good as mine, but where he lacks versatility he does have experience and physical strength. He's a winner, I'm a winner. He's a dominant guy, I believe that I dominate a lot of my competition.
It's going to be a magnificent display of martial arts,” Jones added. “I'm really excited to fight Vitor Belfort, mainly because he's a southpaw. The last time I fought a southpaw was Lyoto, and I got punched pretty good so I'm interested in doing a better
job.”
Belfort is definitely one of the most vicious fighters in the ring. For Jones, he is among the toughest opponents and a threat to his light heavyweight crown.
Jones, who recently came under immense criticism by UFC fans and officials for letting the UFC 151 card cancel. Jones was supposed to fight Dan Henderson at UFC 151, but due to an injury sustained by the latter, Jones was offered to fight against ‘The American
Gangster’ Chael Sonnen.
The light heavyweight champion found it inappropriate and unprofessional to change opponents just a week earlier and so he declined the offer, which eventually led to the cancellation of the card. The entire scenario got so tensed that President of the UFC
Dana White lashed out on Jones in public, saying he was ‘disgusted’ by Jones answer.
On the other hand, Jones revealed that he owes nothing to anybody and so he did whatever was best for him to do.
