Jon Jones blames Chael Sonnen of racism – UFC News
UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is not very happy with Chael Sonnen’s recent comments. Jones already received a lot of criticism regarding his UFC 151 decision, followed by Chael Sonnen’s inappropriate comments. Finally, the light-heavyweight champion
has decided to strike back.
Sonnen, who is always dependent upon using verbal attacks to get attention, has once again done it. Although Jon Jones had promised he would not fall in the trap, he has now.
During an interview with Ariel Helwani, Jones asserted that Sonnen does not deserve a title shot. He even called Jones a racist.
“It's like, why would I contradict myself when I clearly just said that I think Chael Sonnen is a racist? The way he treats Brazilians is just totally uncalled for; I have zero respect for him,” said the light-heavyweight champion.
“Chael Sonnen is a punk, he's a thug. He calls himself the American Gangster but he ratted out all his friends in that money laundering situation? That's not gangster. He's a straight punk.”
Sonnen called Jones an ‘entitled brat’ in an interview with ESPN, something that did not quite sit with Jones.
“When you go from me and you being really close… the last press conference after I fought Rashad [Evans] he was like 'don't you just love this guy' and now I'm like hated? Because I did what was right for me and my future?” Jones added.
Jones is currently going through a rough phase. It was the first time in his UFC career that he had to make the call to save the day and unfortunately, he failed. Later on, even though Jones apologised to his fans and the undercard fighters, he still received
bitterness from every nook of the UFC world.
Dana White, president of the UFC, claimed he was disgusted with Jon Jones decision. Similarly, other fighters such as Anderson Silva and Tito Ortiz asserted that Jones could have saved the card, UFC 151.
In an interview following UFC 151’s cancellation, Jones insisted that he had to do what was best for him. According to Jones, it was mainly Dan Henderson and Dana White’s fault due to which the card went into annulment.
