Jon Jones defeats Lyoto Machida to retain UFC Light Heavyweight Title – UFC 140 Recap
American mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Jon Jones successfully retained his Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light Heavyweight Championship title against Brazilian MMA fighter Lyoto Machida. Their bout was held on December
10, 2011 at UFC 140. The event was held in Toronto, Canada.  
The first round of the bout Machida carefully analyzes the ring and the stance which his opponent has taken. Jones moved forward for the strike with his punches but Machida was able to move out of target as Jones missed all his
strikes. In the early goings of the bout, Machida did went for an opening and could have gotten an advantage but Jones was watching his opponent’s move carefully as he moved a few spaces back to get some room for a counter attack.
Jones did make an aggressive attempt by striking with his spinning kick but the attack was not made with an impact. The UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, Machida, then moved forward with his left punch which did helped Machida gain
some momentum. Machida got his confidence in the bout as he paced forward with his kicks. The champion made his presence felt with a kick and a nice straight punch.
Machida was moving around in the ring, not letting his opponent take any advantage over him. Jones tried to counter as he threw a high kick but Machida was vigilant and moved away just in the nick of time. Machida was able to find
an opportunity to score and gave some gave some thunderous combination of punches and kicks which placed Jones on the back foot. The first round ended as the champion was back on his feet.   
With the second round in progress, Jones was showing his flexibility as he went for a leg kick to get some advantage. He missed the kick. Jones then went for a spinning back kick and again was unable to get his target. The champion
is unable to get his moves across as the challenger is moving around and blocking the moves well.
The challenger, Machida, is showing great amount of spirit as he is taking his time in observing the champion’s moves. Machida is countering every move which Jones is attacking with. Jones is successful in punching with a left
hook shot which was a sudden move. Although the punch was straight and strong, it did not affected Machida much as he was still on his feet.
Jones was able to attack with his elbows and Machida starts to bleed. Jones capitalized on the opportunity and locked Machida in the guillotine choke submission move. Machida could not continue and submitted. Jones won the bout
by a technical knockout (TKO) in the second round of the fight.
