Jon Jones eagerly waiting for a heavyweight bout – UFC news
Jon Jones, after seeing Rashad Evans fight miserably as he puts it, has claimed he is confident of his fighting abilities and he wants to have a heavyweight bout by the end of 2012.
Jon Jones, who is currently the light-heavyweight champion, seems confident of the fact that he can defend his title against anyone, so he is reluctant to have the bout.
When it comes to 205lb bouts, Jon Jones is considered to be among the best fighters around. He has already defeated fighters like Rampage Jackson, Lyoto Machida and Mauricio Shogun Rua in a very brutal manner, which has established him as the most fierce
light-heavyweight fighter today.
As of now, Jones next opponent seems to be Rashad Evans. Evans is as good as Jones and is the crowd favourite as well. Both the men might have a clash in April 2012.
If Jones is able to overcome the wrath of Evans, his next opponent will be Dan Henderson, since he is the only fighter left in the scene who hasn’t yet been in the ring with the champion. In addition, if Jones successfully beats Henderson then he will accomplish
it all.
However, it seems like Jones wants more than what he has and that he wants to keep fighting. Previously, in an interview Jones expressed that he wants to fight at least thrice this year. Therefore, in this context, if he beats Evans and Henderson he will
still be left with one bout for which he will have to find a suitable opponent.
According to Jones, “I figured beating Henderson and Rashad, there would be a period of trying to figure out who I would fight next, and during that period, at the end of 2012, I requested to fight a top 10 heavyweight just for the fans. But Dana [White]
and Lorenzo [Fertitta] did not think that was the best thing for me to do right now, they wanted me to continue in the light-heavyweight division.”
If sources are to be believed then Jones will be soon moving towards a title fight against Evans, which he is confident of winning.
