Jon Jones’ elbow injury needs more inspection – UFC News
Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight champion Jon Jones suffered grave elbow inury during his fourth consecutive title defence against Vitor Belfort. Jones submitted Belfort in the fourth round and not only defended his title successfully but
gave a boost to his brand by establishing the fact that he indeed is the toughest fighter in the division.
Nevertheless, Jones paid a hefty price for going head to head against Belfort. He was locked in an armbar by the Brazilian fighter in the first round. According to Jones, the submission nearly popped out his arm and he was waiting for it to break.
Earlier this month, Jones’ manager revealed that the light heavyweight champion might need to go for a surgery. Now, Jones’ coach has revealed that the champion did not suffer any ligament damage and it was just a strain.
“According to Jones' wrestling coach, Izzy Martinez, the injury Jon Jones suffered at UFC 152 was just a strain with no ligament damage. However ... Jones requires a follow up examination in Los Angeles, because, for whatever reason, the camp was told the
first procedure may have been incomplete. As of this taping, no word on how that procedure went,” revealed a report that featured on FUEL TV’s ‘UFC Tonight’.
Belfort was being considered Jones’ toughest opponent to date but the light heavyweight champion ensured victory against him. Jones is currently seen as one of the best mixed martial artists in the world. He is on his way to break Tito Ortiz’s record of
highest title defences in the UFC. A severe damage to his shoulder or arm could have devastated Jones’ career. Luckily, the American fighter did not suffer any ligament damage.
For now, Jones will be on medications and no surgeries will be performed, as it was reported previously. The light heavyweight champion will be making his title defence soon, whenever he recovers. Probably, he might have to go against ‘The American Gangster’
Chael Sonnen, if fans want the fight the fight to happen.
Jones victory over Belfort proved that he can not only take punches but can also survive deadly submissions.
