Jon Jones has had enough of Chael Sonnen’s remarks – UFC News
Finally, it seems like Chael Sonnen’s plan of getting in Jon Jones’ head is working. The light heavyweight champion has reportedly asked President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship to stop Sonnen from calling him out, according to Yahoo! Sports.
“I've got an agreement to fight a gentleman named Forrest Griffin on December 29, but I don't know. Jon Jones has a date of September 22 and right now, he's fighting Vitor Belfort. Vitor never shows up, Vitor has pulled out of way more fights than he has
ever shown up for, so if I had to guess you'll be seeing me fight Jon Jones on September 22,” said Sonnen.
Jon Jones is already under immense criticism from fellow fighters and critics alike. Jones was scheduled to fight Dan Henderson at UFC 151, but due to an injury sustained by the latter, the fight fell off. In order to save the card, Dana White called in
Sonnen for a title but Jones refused.
This very refusal of Jones caused him to be the centre of criticism. UFC 151 card was cancelled by the organisation, as Jones was not ready to fight any opponent just eight days before the show. Later on, the light heavyweight champion apologised the under
card fighters and fans for the cancellation of the card, yet insisted that he needs to do what is right for him.
As of now, Jones is scheduled to fight old-school fighter Vitor Belfort at UFC 152. Nevertheless, Sonnen is still trying to pitch in the show, even though he is not even in the list of top contenders.
“I could go up to 205 and I could take Jon Jones' belt the same as I could take his candy on Halloween – a little punk kid, I'd snatch it away all I want. But there's something to be said in sportsmanship for earning your shot,” said Sonnen last month while
deciding his UFC future, following his loss to middleweight champion Anderson Silva.
As of now, Jones is furious over Sonnen’s remark and has urged White to stop ‘The American Gangster’ from trash-talking against him.
