Jon Jones heading towards the top of the MMA mountain – UFC Special
Jon Jones, the American mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter, has been on a roll in his MMA career. His latest win came while facing Brazilian MMA fighter, Lyoto Machida, at Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) 140 event which was
held on December 10, 2011 in Toronto, Canada. Jones not only won the bout, but he also successfully defended his UFC Light Heavyweight Championship.
For Jones, the year 2011 has been a great one indeed. He has won all of his fights which he took part in 2011. He faced Ryan Bader at UFC 126 in February 2011 and won the bout in the second round. The year 2011 also proved to be
a significant one for him. He won his UFC Light Heavyweight Championship by beating Mauricio Rua at UFC 128 on March 19, 2011. He then had two bouts in which he successfully defended his title. First, he went against Quinton Jackson in September 2011 at UFC
135 and won the bout by a submission hold. His second defence came at UFC 140.
Jones, the 24-year-old MMA fighter who began his professional career in April 2008 against Brad Bernard, enjoyed an undefeated streak. He won the first nine fights in his MMA career. This straight win tenure also included his successful
debut at the UFC. In the UFC, he won three straight bouts. He made his UFC debut at UFC 87 in August 2008.
His opponent in the bout was Andre Gusmao. Jones won the bout through a unanimous decision in a three round bout. His second win in the UFC came at UFC 94 when he defeated Stephen Bonnar in January 2009. This time again, he won
the bout through a unanimous decision.  Jones’ won his third straight fight in the UFC at UFC 100 in July 2009 when he defeated Jake O’Brien.
Until now, Jones has faced only a single defeat. This loss came in December 2009 when he faced Matt Hamill at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF): Heavyweights Finale event held in Las Vegas, Nevada. His loss was a result of his own move.
Jones could have won the bout but Jones used an illegal move. In the first round of the bout, Jones used the 12-to-6 elbow strike, which has been termed as an illegal move by the UFC. Had Jones not used this elbow strike, he might have been undefeated until
now.
Jones has been a tough competitor inside the UFC octagon fight ring for years. Ever since he made his MMA debut he has always remained focused on his fights and concentrated on his opponents’ weaknesses whenever he got the chance.
After his defeat in December 2009, he resumed his winning streak once again and won six consecutive bouts. This time, all of this six wins came in the UFC ring. He won his bout at UFC Live event in March 2010 against Brandon Vera followed by a win over Vladimir
Matyushenko at UFC Live event in August 2010.
Standing at 6ft 4in, Jones is a tall and lean machine, who can easily overpower his opponents. Specializing in wrestling, Muay Thai and Jiu-Jitsu, Jones has shown his aggression on many occasions in his MMA and UFC career. His
technical submission move, submission move and knockout punches and strikes have been effective in putting down his opponents. Jones adopts himself well with the surrounding and advances towards his opponents accordingly.
Jones is not only unpredictable with his moves and combination moves, but he also has the talent of being a fighter having versatility in his moves. He can use his punches, elbow kicks and leg kicks in a variety of ways, which
has always been a matter of huge concern for his opponents. Jones has already been successful in retaining his UFC Light Heavyweight Championship twice in succession.
He can be successful in the future if he keeps fighting with the same aggression. With only a single loss in his MMA career and fifteen wins, Jones can be termed as one of the best MMA fighters in the world. Let’s see what feats
he accomplishes in the future. But for the time being, he is unbeatable and moving to get the top spot in MMA and UFC list of fighters.
