Jon Jones hints at the possibility of fighting Anderson Silva – UFC News
A possible fight between UFC’s light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and middleweight champion Anderson Silva is more or less like a dream match between boxers Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather. Both fighters are at the peak of their games and fans want
to see them clashing against each other, but for some reason or the other, it never happens.
Recently, following a first round knockout win against Stephan Bonnar, middleweight champion Anderson Silva shrugged off rumours of moving up in weight to face Jon Jones. However, president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship Dana White ensured fans that
he will bring Anderson down to the cage against Jones, if the fight ever happens.
“I really do not want to fight with Anderson. I respect him a lot. As I said several times, I do not want to be the guy who beat Anderson and do not want to be the guy who lost to him,” said Jones while giving an interview to Brazil’s Correio Braziliense.
“Anderson is a great champion, I'm a big champion. We both ... (Long pause). I do not know, I do not know...
“I'm not saying that the fight will not happen. It can happen. But it's not something I'm chasing... I do not believe that you need to fight with Anderson to be the best in the world.
Jones is coming off a win against Vitor Belfort, probably one of his toughest opponents. A lot of fans and analysts had doubts over Jones’ skills as a mixed martial artist but the light heavyweight champion proved them all wrong by taking the worst beating
of his life at the hands of Belfort.
It was a general thought that Jones is unable to take punches and submissions but he survived a vicious armbar by Belfort, which nearly tore his arm apart. Now, Jones proudly stands among the most elite mixed martial artists in the world. He knows he needs
to beat Anderson Silva in order to cement his legacy but he is not up for it. Silva is regarded as the best mixed martial artist of all times but Jones believes it is not a necessity to defeat the Brazilian to be on top.
