Jon Jones impressed with Chael Sonnen’s decent behaviour – UFC News
Rarely do we see a fighter like Chael Sonnen, who is known for his trash-talking, get under the shed against his opponent, but he did it this time. The American Gangster spoke of light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, his opponent at The Ultimate Fighter
Season 17, highly, making the American champion believe ‘he is not that bad after all’.
During a recent press conference to announce the fight between Chael Sonnen and Jon Jones, the former surprisingly was decent and admired the champion for his skills. Sonnen asserted that Jones is his favourite fighter, and the best mixed marital artist
in the world according to him. While most fans were hoping Sonnen to bash Jones verbally, his attitude came as a big surprise to everyone.
“(Chael’s) not too bad. I thought it was going to be all trash-talk, but he's actually being pretty decent and pretty classy. So, I think it's going to make for a great show,” said Jones during an online chat hosted by Metro PCS via Ustream.
“I actually don't hate Chael anymore. He's actually turning out to be OK. I'm not sure if he's setting me up to really hate him—but right now, he's being a pretty decent human.”
Sonnen was criticised widely for his behaviour and his trash-talking, which got him the match against Jones. According to some of the top-notch UFC fighters such as Lyoto Machida, Dan Henderson and Anderson Silva, Sonnen did not deserve the shot. Silva,
who is known as the best mixed martial artist in the world today and holds the middleweight championship, believed there were other better fighters in the division who deserved the shot.
Even Jones had previously cited that he would not fight Sonnen until the American Gangster comes through the right channel, but now the light heavyweight champion is down to it. For a lot of fans, Jones compromised on his principles just because of a hefty
paycheck. However, Jones denies it saying that he only took the fight against Sonnen to finish this chapter once and for all.
For now, Jones is confident that he would beat Sonnen to prove his mettle to the naysayers for good.
