Jon Jones is finally thinking about fighting Chael Sonnen – UFC News
UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is finally on the verge of admitting that a fight against light heavyweight contender Chael Sonnen will be enthralling for fans. Jones, who has repeatedly said that Sonnen does not deserve a title shot, has now asserted
that fans’ demands are more important to consider.
“The more I realise how bad the fans want me to fight Sonnen the more I am beginning to disregard whether he deserves it or not,” read a Tweet from Jones.
“A part of me wants to do it for the fans, the other part of me feels as if it delegitimizes the importance of [a] championship,” he added.
If Jones had thought about this earlier, probably the UFC 152 card would have been saved. Jones was scheduled to face Dan Henderson at UFC 152 but the latter suffered a leg injury, due to which the fight fell apart. President Dana White immediately rushed
to the rescue and tried replacing Sonnen with Henderson but Jones denied. The champion said he would not change his opponent just eight days prior to the show.
In reply to Jones’ tweet, Sonnen said, “You don't GIVE. I TAKE. Remember that Bonesie-Boy.”
On the other hand, President of UFC Dana White believes a fight between Sonnen and Jones would be highly interesting for fans. The way Sonnen trash-talks about his opponents always grasps viewers’ attention. Previously, Sonnen targeted middleweight champion
Anderson Silva with his verbal shots and got a match against him and now it is Jon Jones on the radar.
To a certain extent, Jones is right. Sonnen has never proved himself worthy of a title shot. He went head to head with Silva twice but could never beat him. Now, he wants to lock horns against Jones, even though he has not defeated anyone in the division
yet.
Sonnen is scheduled to make his light heavyweight comeback against Forrest Griffin in December. In the ‘American Gangster’ wins, he might get a chance to challenge Sonnen for the title. If he loses, he definitely would lose his bargain of the deal, but trash-talking
will still be his weapon.
