Jon Jones reveals his success story – UFC News
Light heavyweight champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship Jon Jones spoke of his success in the organization with Bleacher Report. According to Bones, it was his victory over Stephan Bonnar that got him better fights and earned him in a name in the
division.
Jones, who currently stands with 17 wins and 1 loss, outclassed former UFC fighter Stephan Bonnar, who retired with 15 wins and 8 losses, at UFC 94, three years back. Jones defeated Bonnar via decision.
“I realized things were going great right away when I beat Stephan Bonnar. Stephan is a guy who had a big name in the sport and was highly respected. I was a nobody going into that fight. For me to beat him showed me there was something different going on,
and upsetting a fighter who was beyond me in that moment was special,” said Jones.
Jones, much like his counterpart Anderson Silva, is considered among the best MMA fighters in the world today. The only difference between Jones and Silva is that the former stands with one loss in his career, a controversial disqualification to Matt Hamill
in 2009.
Jones will be defending his title against The American Gangster Chael Sonnen at The Ultimate Fighter season 17 next year.
On the other hand, Bonnar retired from the sport last month following his knockout defeat at the hands of middleweight champion Anderson Silva. For Bonnar, it was the end of his legendary career while for Silva it was just a fun-fight, a treat more like
it for his Brazilian fans.
For now, it seems like Jones is an unstoppable force in the division. No fighter can match his skills and power, not even Chael Sonnen, who claims to be Jones’ equal.
The only threat to Jones’ career right now is a super-fight against middleweight champion Anderson Silva. ‘Bones’ has already declined to face Silva but president of the UFC Dana White is hopeful that both fighters will clash soon.
White is looking forward to super-fights for this year, including the fight between Jones and Silva and a fighter between Silva and welterweight titlist Georges St-Pierre.
