Jon Jones sure-footed to move up to heavyweight – UFC News
Long time back, UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones revealed his plans of moving up to the heavyweight division. While most fans thought Jones forgot about his plan, surprisingly he is still on it. Recently, during a MetroPCS chat with the fans, Jones
spoke about his plans, asserting that moving up in weight is his major goal.
“I'll definitely move up to heavyweight But it'll probably be around 2013,” said Jones when asked about his future in the UFC. “Maybe at the end of 2013. Right now I have a nutritionist and I'm starting to take the career a lot more serious than I used to
so my weight cuts are getting a lot easier.”
Not just moving up in weight is what fans want to see, they also want the light heavyweight champion to collide with middleweight champion Anderson Silva, who is currently known as the best UFC fighter.
“I walk around a lot thinner naturally so right now I'm about 225, a 20 pound weight cut. That's really easy. I might look bigger than everyone else I'm fighting but I'm really not,” he added.
Unfortunately, Jones did not speak about his plans for any super-fights. Although he knows he is being expected to face Silva, the light heavyweight champion has time and again shrugged off the notion, saying he respects Silva a bit too much to face him.
For now, Jones has given a surprise to fans, saying that he would probably be a heavyweight by the end of 2013. He is currently scheduled to face The American Gangster Chael Sonnen at The Ultimate Fighter Season 17 next year. Even though the fight is one
sided, Jones still believes Sonnen can bring in an upset.
On the other hand, President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship Dana White is speaking repeatedly of a fight between Jones and Silva. While both the fighters have declined the offer, White believes with the right push, everything is possible.
Jones recently defeated Vitor Belfort, one of the best in the business, to prove his mettle. He is now surely among the best mixed martial artists in the world, after surviving a thorough beating at the hands of Belfort.
