Jon Jones talks about facing Chael Sonnen – UFC News
Finally, it is here. The most awaited fight news of the year has been revealed by The Ultimate Fighting Championship. UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones will face the American Gangster Chael Sonnen. Although the fight, to many, is not as interesting
as Sonnen’s fight against Silva, the hype has already started to build.
Jon Jones, who previously claimed that he will not fight Sonnen until the American Gangster comes through the right channel, is now finally fighting his nemesis next year. Sonnen has already said enough regarding Jones and now he is adding fuel to the fire,
since he is the victor here. If nothing else, at least Sonnen proved that standing up for yourself can get you big fights. The American Gangster has not even made his light heavyweight comeback yet and he has already scored the title shot. For that, everyone
has to respect Sonnen.
As expected, Jones is not at all intimidated by Sonnen, believing that the latter has nothing to threaten him with.
“I've faced plenty of wrestlers like Vladimir Matyushenko, Jake O'Brien and Matt Hamill and had no problems. Chael is a decent wrestler. He was an Olympic alternate but he wasn't on the team,” Jones said during the media conference call today. “No disrespect
to other alternates but he's not at that level. Who cares if he takes me down, he gets submitted all the time from top position anyways. I've wrestled since I was a 14 year old boy and I still love wrestling. I'm definitely prepared. If he does take me down,
so what? His ground and pound is weak and he gets submitted all the time.”
Jones is known for his long reach. His elbow and knee shots are probably the most dangerous in the entire UFC. Sonnen, who has faced the bitter side of middleweight champion Anderson Silva, should be aware of his younger version Jones.
Sonnen’s strength is grappling but he needs to reach to Jones for that. On the other hand, Jones will try his level best to avoid grappling by attacking with his knee and elbow shots.
