Jon Jones thinking of beating Chael Sonnen soon – UFC News
While UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is currently focusing on his UFC 152 foe Vitor Belfort, he surely has not forgotten the verbal attacks of Chael Sonnen. Jones, who was criticised widely for his behaviour regarding UFC 151, believes Sonnen got
the spotlight following UFC 151’s downfall for no reason.
“I think it's funny how Chael Sonnen became a hero out of this thing,” said the light heavyweight champion who believes Sonnen is ‘silly’ has no fighting skills, during a recent appearance on The MMA (After) Hour.
“Chael had nothing to do with this and he just talked his way into the limelight somehow,” asserted Jones.
Chael Sonnen ‘The American Gangster’ last fought at the middleweight level against middleweight champion Anderson Silva. Sonnen had promised a victory against Silva to his fans and his father but he could not score one. The ‘Spider’ Silva knocked him out
in the second round, an easy victory than his previous one against Sonnen.
Now, Sonnen is making his comeback to the light heavyweight division and he wishes to take on the champion. For some reason, Sonnen always finds himself in the lucky corner. He challenged Jones for a fight but president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship
Dana White turned it down saying ‘The American Gangster’ will have to fight others first to get to Jones.
However, White backed off from his claims when Dan Henderson, Jones’ opponent for UFC 151, got his leg injured and could not compete for the card. White immediately tried replacing Sonnen with Henderson but Jones declined, saying he will not change opponents
just eight days before the showdown.
Jones’ comments mark the downfall of the UFC 151 card, attracting blames and curses for the champion from every corner. As much as Jones was furious over Dana White for creating a rigid scenario, he was willing to overlook Sonnen’s challenge but no more.
Now, the light heavyweight champion wants to go head to head with Sonnen soon, ‘when the right time comes’ for Sonnen.
“He'll get his time when the time comes. I'll beat that man silly,” Jones added.
