Jon Jones vs Lyoto Machida – MMA Preview: UFC 140

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will host UFC 140 on December 10, 2011. The event venue will be the Air Canada Centre, Toronto. The Light heavy Weight championship fight will be contested between American mixed martial
arts (MMA) fighter Jon Jones against Brazilian MMA fighter Lyoto Machida. Jones, the 24-year old fighter is the current Lightheavy weight champion in the UFC and would have his hands full when he would meet Machida, who looks forward to take the title from
Jones.
Jones, nicknamed, Bones, won the Light Heavyweight Championship at UFC 128 in March 2011 when he beat Mauricio Rua through a technical knockout. He successfully defended his title at UFC 135 against Quinton Jackson through his
submission move, the rear naked choke.
Machida, on the other hand, was part of one fight this year against Randy Couture at UFC 129 in April 2011. Machida, nicknamed, The Dragon, will use hi striking abilities in the fight for he has a 42% striking success rate. Jones
has a 34% success rate with his striking rate. In his submission moves, he also leads Jones for the Brazilian fighter has a 32% success rate while Jones has a 24% rate of success. In terms of takedowns, Jones will be the fighter to watch for, as he has a 41%
takedown success rate as compared to Machida’s 25% rate.
Although Jones is the champion, entering the bout but Machida would be standing in the fighting ring with added motivation for he has won more fights than Jones. Brazilian Machida measures at 6ft 1in, three inches shorter than
his opponent.
Jones would certainly have a height advantage but Machida’s strikes could be the equalizer the Brazilian he would have. Machida would be focusing to put the champion down in the early parts of the fight but Jones will prove to
be a worthy opponent for he is a champion and would have the needed mental attitude to give his best shot. Jones, on the other hand, would look for a knockout win over Machida but the two opponents can cancel out each other’s attacks with their counter moves
and agility in the ring. At UFC 140, Jones would do his best to come out as the champion by successfully defending his title but Machida too, will not do down that easily.
