When ever I hear Jon Olsson talk I never hear an accent. He's from Sweden and every person that I have heard that comes from Sweden has an accent. I asked my brother if he might have heard an accent because sometimes I can't hear one like Hannu Toivonen's. But he didn't hear one either. So does anyone know why he sounds American?

  1. Dude hes talking about Jon Olson the skier not Al Olsen who ever he is but my guess is he was born in sweden and spent most of his life in the US but im not sure thats just my guess

  2. Al Jolson was born in Lithuania, in 1885.  After he emigrated to America in 1925, he lived mostly in the South, notably Washington and New Orleans.  His family were Jewish, and his accent reflected his varied background.  When in 'blackface', his act did include certain exaggerations of black American speech traits of the time, which jar on a modern ear.

  3. In Sweden, everyone speaks english, especially in  a resort town like Are where Jon is from. He hangs out with Americans and spends most of his time here these days. Plus he's a very smart guy and an incredibly hard worker,  although most people picture him as a slacker jibber. There was a Swedish tennis player, Mikael Pernfors who was recruited by University of Georgia and went on to play in the men's pro tour, and when I heard him interviewed he sounded like a good ole boy Georgia cracker with a thick southern drawl! Maybe swedes have an ability to assimilate languages easily?
