Jon Wilkin pledges his future to Saint Helens until 2015 - Rugby League News
Saint Helens confirmed on Tuesday, December 6, that Jon Wilkin will stay at the club until 2015.
The club and player are both very happy with the latest developments at Helens, according to which the Saints’ forward will continue playing for the franchise. The player expressed his excitement and said, "It's fantastic to pledge myself to St Helens for
the next four seasons. We are all excited about the new season ahead at our new home, Langtree Park."
The Saints’ player went on and added that he had an amazing ten years at the club and he is actually looking forward to build on his success with the franchise.
Helens’ veteran made his debut in the world of rugby league with Hull KR in 2002, where he amassed 29 points from 25 games played. The same year saw the player committing his future to Saints, where he played 174 games and scored 55 tries and earned 221
points.
Wilkin’s successful profile is also studded with the Challenge Cup 2006 win, where the player was on-field with a broken nose and won the Super League Leaders’ trophy. The player also has the Super League Grand Final 2006 to his credit where he helped his
side whitewash Hull FC with a monstrous 26-4 win.
Wilkin’s profile also boasts the BBC TV Sports Personality of the Year in 2006 when Saints were branded as the Team of the Year where Daniel Anderson scooped the Best Coach honour. 2006 may be considered the highlight of his rugby league’s career so far,
because in the very same year the player’s on field brilliance made him part of the Super League Dream Team.
Wilkin’s successful track record has also been acknowledged by Saints chairman, Eamonn McManus, who shared with reporters and said, "Jon had a standout Four Nations tournament recently, where he more than proved himself against some of the best back rowers
in the world. He is also now a senior member of the squad and a great ambassador for the club and for the game of rugby league. We are at the beginning of a new era for the Saints and Jon will be a key component of it."
The retention of the 28-year-old at Saints will turn out to be very fruitful for the club, which is striving to achieve even bigger goals in their next season. The player’s experience will not only benefit the club but it will also improve the quality of
performance shown by the younger lot. For this purpose, the franchise is keen on retaining talent for longer period. Another link of that chain is St. Helens scrum-half, Jonny Lomax, who penned a new deal at the club which will keep him on board until 2015.
