Jon and Kate Plus 8: Kate's family?

I've never seen nor even heard Kate talk about her parents. Are they estranged from one another?

she said in one episode that some grandparents just want to live their own life and don't really want to be too involved in their grandchildren's lives.

Jon said that his father was the involved grandparent before he died.

then it showed a clip of his dad with the kids.

i wondered that too before i saw that episode.

There is a form I read once that answered why hers and Jon's parents aren't involved much or at all, but what I remember it was because they aren't close to them anymore.
