Jonas Billstein gets disqualified as Herbert Goodman wins at Bellator 58 – MMA Recap
Germany’s mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Jonas Billstein faced American MMA fighter Herbert Goodman in a middleweight bout at Bellator 58 on November 19, 2011. The event was hosted by the Bellator Championship Fighting in Florida.
Both fighters have been doing great in their respective MMA careers. Their statistics have been a source of motivation for both of them to carry on with force in their careers. That was the same level of energy which they displayed
inside the Bellator fighting ring when they both squared off for the middleweight bout.
They started off the fight with their strikes. Each fighter was using his punches and strikes to take an early advantage. This kept on going for some time as their strikes were at times on the spot while at some instances; the
opponent’s reflexes saved them from such punches. Billstein became a bit aggressive with his approach. He gave a series of punches to take an edge over Goodman.
The German then retreated a few steps back to think about his next move. Billstein used his power to put his opponent down but the takedown did not work as the German would have expected. But he was able to throw Goodman back in
the corner as he crashed back first on the cage. The strategy by Billstein worked as Goodman required a few seconds to get his focus back on the fight.
Billstein used these few seconds to further accentuate his position in the fight. He gave some thunderous hook shots and body shots to Goodman. Both the fighters then came in the center of the ring with another brief standoff.
Goodman had gained his focus by then as he threw a successful right punch and immediately blocked a head kick from the German.
A right cross shot followed by a body kick was used by Billstein to mount some more pressure on his opponent. The German went for another series of attacks when he landed some amazing punches. He then went a few steps back with
the thought of some sudden retaliation from his American opponent.
Just at the end of the first round, the German used his combo shots. As the second round progressed, the German was again on the offensive. The German may have won the fight but his one move cost him the bout. Billstein used an
illegal move and was immediately disqualified. He used an illegal kick, or a soccer kick commonly referred in the MMA. The moment he used the kick, the referee signaled the move and ended the bout, giving the win to Goodman.
