Jonas Blixt and De Jonge share Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open lead after two rounds
A second straight 7-under 64 for Jonas Blixt on Friday meant that he took top honours along with De Jonge at Shriners Hospital for Children Open.
De Jonge could not match his first round score but a 62 in the first round followed by a 66 in the second also took him to the top of the leader board.
Both Blixt and Jonge are winless so far, this season, on the PGA Tour. Blixt, who hails from Sweden, was extremely happy with his performance at the tournament.
“I think it’s a lot of things that makes me play well this week,” said Blixt, from Sweden. “I got my family in town, my brother and my sister, a couple friends from overseas, which makes it really relaxed”.
He added, “We’re renting a house together and just having a good time. I don’t think about golf at all coming off the golf course. Just hang out with them. It’s easy to think about something else when you’re in Las Vegas, right?”
Blixt almost had a flawless round which included an eagle as well but he double bogeyed at the par-3 17th. The seventeenth hole has been giving problems to everybody.
In the first round, Ryan Moore got stuck on this hole. He had to putt thrice to get out of the trap. First’s round leader, Moore, could only come up with an average 68 after his opening round blitz.
“It was a good, solid round,” Moore said. “I definitely would have liked to have seen a few more of those putts drop”.
Ryan had a good round to be fair. He just narrowly missed the putts. If those putts had dropped in, Moore would have run away with the lead.
The veteran, John Daly also shot his lowest round of the year. Daly shot 63 on Friday, which included two bogeys, eight birdies and an eagle to finish with 10-under after two rounds.
Daly needs to perform well in the next two rounds if he has to earn his full PGA Tour card for the next season. He is 132nd on the money earned list right now.
The defending champion, Kevin Na was at eight-under after he shot a 66 on Friday.
